Takeoff Process ExplainedThe Quantity Takeoff process is an activity performed by General Contractors, Subcontractors and Cost Consultants as part of the bidding/budgeting process. The bidding/budgeting process involves quantifying the number of items associated with a particular construction project, determining the associated material and labor costs, and formulating a bid/budget. A detailed and accurate quantity takeoff is critical to this process. Today, a quantity takeoff is typically done manually using a printout, a red pen, and a clicker. A digitizer is also used for taking measurements from paper plans.
